It was a beautiful day in the Centennial Gardens at Hermann Park this April 7th when Mayor Sylvester Turner made an exciting announcement related to the Interior Department’s leadership of First Lady Michelle Obama’s Let’s Move! Outside initiative.
Mayor Tuner along with special guests: U.S. Department of Interior Assistant Secretary Janice Schneider and YMCS of Greater Houston Area President and CEO Paul McEntire joined local partners, such as Go Healthy Houston, in promoting outdoor activity and community engagement in this launch event for Let’s Move! Outside.
Even the most well-dressed official donned a spade and gardening gloves for the community service project which aims to inspire millions of kids to play, learn, serve and work in the great outdoors. Through providing opportunities on public lands, the initiative seeks to foster the next generation of leaders and outdoor stewards in communities nationwide and help Interior reach its goal of hosting one million volunteers on public lands annually.
