For those of you who are looking to get active, The Go Healthy Houston Sunday Streets event series has one more date coming up on December 7th in the 5th ward!Sunday Streets is an initiative that closes down Houston streets to vehicles on a Sunday to allow for more pedestrian and bike activity. In addition to the foot traffic, local businesses are encouraged to put on events and special booths so there are often a variety of activities for all ages to participate in.
Past events have occurred in the heights and third ward where the history of the spaces were emphasized alongside their current uses as community focal points. The event on November 2nd featured the El Dorado Ballroom, a historic performance space that has hosted the likes of B.B. King and Count Basie.
For the event on December 7th, the streets being closed are Navigation and Hirsch street, both east of downtown. The primary purpose of these events is to be physically active so be sure to bring a bottle of water. Sponsors such as BikeHouston and the Rice Design Alliance will have booths up with art and activities so bring your bike, stroller, or favorite walking shoes and join the fun!
