This Sunday, join tens of thousands of Houstonians walking, biking, unicycling, skate boarding, and just hanging out in the open streets at Sunday Streets HTX, brought to you by the City of Houston Health and Human Services Department and Go Healthy Houston.
Sunday Streets HTX
December 7th from 12 pm to 4 pm
East End/Fifth Ward
Grab a B-Cycle or your own bike and join in on the fun as we hop on our rides and cruise to Sunday Streets HTX in the East End/Fifth Ward and join up with our BCO biking brethren. We are meeting at Market Square Park around 12:00 noon and riding out at 12:30 PM (street parking is free on Sundays). Everyone is more than welcome to grab a bite to eat from Niko Niko’s before we roll out at 12:30.
On our way to the East End/Fifth Ward, plan on cruising the neighborhoods and streets of H-town and checking out the sites. Once we get to the Eastside, we’ll meet with more riders at the virtual B-Cycle station at El Tiempo. We’ll cruise the Sunday Street as a group, or break into smaller bike gangs and explore the area from a fresh perspective—outside of our vehicles!
After every Sunday Streets HTX, I round up photographs and reflect on the event. What stood out for me on November 2 in the Third Ward was the play. Previous routes, especially Westheimer and 19th Street, were compact and lined with businesses, whereas on this last route activity was clustered at either end. All that space in between was open to playful appropriation.
