The mission of the Urban Gardens is to provide a hands-on learning experience in vegetable gardening and urban agriculture to communities and encourage the consumption of local fruits and vegetables.

Get Moving Houston Gardens

Established in 2007, there are 15 gardens in Houston Health Department facilities across the city of Houston.

Garden Clubs: Gardens are maintained by a group of community members regularly.  


Adoption Gardens: Gardens are maintained by an external partner or organization with an agreement.  


Specialty Gardens: Gardens used for classes and Houston Health Department’s special programs.  


Employee Gardens: Gardens are maintained by the staff onsite.

Urban Harvest Community Gardens

Established in 1994, Urban Harvest community gardens provide resources and education to now over 140 affiliate gardens – supporting communities in growing their own food and creating sustainable green spaces.
